With our officer election wrapped up, we are happy to report that Nael Barakat and Sara Wilson have been respectively elected to serve as NIEE board chair and vice-chair for 2023-4. Dr. Barakat is a Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Tyler, and has a long record of service as an elected member and vice-chair of the NIEE board. Dr. Wilson is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kansas, and has for many years served on the board as a representative of ASME. We look forward to a busy and productive year working with our new leadership, and gratefully acknowledge the service of Greg Soules, our outgoing chair.

We are pleased to welcome Angela Bielefeldt, Monte Phillips, and Mario Ricozzi as elected members of the NIEE board, each serving a 3-year terms. We are also excited to welcome three new professional society representatives to the board: Jonathon Beever (ASEE), David Kish (NSPE), and Heather Love (IEEE SSIT). Finally, we acknowledge Andrew Taylor, whose term has ended. Our sincere thanks to Andy for his many years of commitment and service to NIEE!

NIEE is proud to be a Technical Co-sponsor and local co-host for IEEE ETHICS-2023: Ethics in the Global Innovation Helix, to be held at Purdue University’s main campus in West Lafayette, IN (USA). ETHICS-2023 will feature a wide-ranging array of plenary talks, panels, workshops, technical sessions, and more. The event runs 18-20 May, and is a fully in-person event. NIEE is pleased to announce its role as a Technical Co-sponsor for IEEE ETHICS-2021: Engineering and Corporate Social Responsibility. Hosted by the University of Waterloo and University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada), ETHICS-2021 will be convened in conjunction with the IEEE International Symposium on Technology and Society (ISTAS21), the flagship conference of the IEEE’s Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT). The event runs from 28-31 October, and will be conducted virtually.
